The Platypus Pig has been designed incorporating the widest point well behind center of the surfboard with an apex rocker shifted aft thereby dramatically increasing maneuverability. Originally, Dale Velzy took a surfboard template back in the late 50’s and flipped it around backwards, making the tail the nose & vice versa.
The result was a very easy to turn surfboard. By expanding upon Velzy’s simplistic approach, The Platypus feels like you are cuddled into a cockpit with nothing in front or in back of you. Think turn, and you are already going there!
These low resistance vehicles are easy turn machines because the bulk of the board is directly under your feet while the rest of the board seems invisible.
They have the ability to launch big airs if that’s your thing, but at the end of the day, this is a super fun, fast, easy surfboard to ride. Commonly surfed as a Single or 2+1 fin configuration, but that doesn’t disqualify it from a 4+1 option that allows you to experiment further.
